Compare what you could have in the account versus what you actually deposited (starting balance plus monthly contributions).

How it works

This tool projects how much you could have at retirement if you keep investing a fixed amount each month and earn a steady average return. It uses a simple month-by-month simulation: your balance compounds, then your contribution is added — the same rhythm as automatic 401(k) or IRA transfers.

Contributed means your starting balance plus every monthly deposit through that date (money you actually put in). Investment growth is everything above that — gains or losses from returns. The chart compares total balance to what you contributed so you can see how much of the ending balance came from compounding.

The return rate is a nominal annual assumption (before inflation). Real life includes market swings, fees, taxes, contribution changes, and employer matches — none of which are modeled here. This page is for education only, not financial advice.
